CAT Practitioner and supervisor training – 2 years

ANZACAT accreditation pathway

This 2-year course combines 100 hours of workshops and theoretical learning through a blend of self-paced modules, live online seminars, experiential mapping practice and reflective assessment tasks.

Although this is an intensive training program it’s not your standard ‘chalk and talk’ training. It’s not ‘Read chapter 8 and write a report’. It’s not ‘DIY and goodbye!’. Our learning materials are flexible and attuned to your needs as they have been designed by our experienced CAT practitioners, CAT supervisors and expert trainers. That means we understand that everyone has their preferred way of learning and there’s no ‘one size fits all’…just as there’s no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to psychotherapy itself.

Our courses are creative, engaging and thorough!

You can do the recommended reading, listen to suggested podcast or watch our YouTube videos.
And if that’s not enough, you can learn via our quizzes and crosswords.

What you’ll learn

The 2-Year Practitioner Training goes much further than the CAT skills program. It focuses not only on formulating relational patterns, but also on working with those patterns over time to support meaningful change.

Participants learn how to:

  • collaboratively develop and refine CAT reformulations with the person they are working with
  • support people to recognise their relational patterns as they occur in daily life and within the therapeutic relationship
  • use the therapeutic relationship to notice, reflect on and gently interrupt repeating patterns
  • support people to experiment with new ways of responding that better meet their needs
  • integrate CAT with existing therapeutic skills and the setting in which you work
  • adapt CAT work so it fits the person’s goals, context and target problem.

The training includes practice-based learning, case discussion, mapping workshops and supervision, allowing practitioners to develop the confidence and depth required to use CAT as a structured therapy approach. In essence, while the CAT Skills course helps practitioners understand and map relational patterns, the Practitioner Training focuses on working with those patterns over time to support change that can reduce distress and improve relationships.
